1st December 2010

Yeh,
I know what your thinking.

I havent posted in ages. Im sorry.  From now on i hereby swear that i will post once a week  :)

I have ben so bogged down recently, uggghh, i just dont know what has happened in these last couple of months. Trimester (term) tests and essays and assesments are all over now and our 1st term results are in. Im a little dissapointed in mine as alot of people scored very highly, and i didnt, so after christmas, and from then on, its work time.

Since the end of last trimester. I have swapped round some of the subjects i did not do very well in. Hopefully this will help my grades improve by the end of next term.

The work has been very demanding, such a big leap from GCSE's ( O-levels ) in england. The syllabus's are extremely different, especially for a subject like maths. The "Presumed knowledge" topic was completely new to me,  I had never covered any of the topics, so it was quite difficult trying to catch up when the teacher was just touching on the subject, rather than explaining it.

English has been a challenge for me. Due to my schedual and my other subject choices, i had no other option than to take english at the highest level you can. I was never really a big fan of english and writing essays, yes of course i knew i was going to have to write a few, im doing the IB!  But the English is another level!  Essay after essay, assesment after assesment. it so hard. the depth that our mark schemes go to is unbelieveable, its like university! Im trying my best though and i am gradually improving, so i should be ok, aslong as i put the work in after christmas.

We have had a couple of "culture weeks" recently, first the North american / carribean week. which was about a month ago and then the Africn week, which was last week. They were both really good, with the students friom the area's in question organising events etc to give expericance and an insight into their culture. What was really good to do with the North american week was that on he monday (the first day of the week) they segregated us. dividing the rest of the students up by the colour of our skin; Whites and Colours. in the dinner lines, in the classrooms, and along the corridoors on the way to class. it was really eyeopening to see how it was when it happened for real.
Both the North american Carribean and the African week students cooked a traditional meal on the friday or saturday. The food was amazing for both. For the african week we were made to eat with out hands and we had to take our shoes off before entering the cafeteria etc.
Unfortunatley. I think it may of been this that has made me ill.  :(  I am not blaming any of the students from african week, but i believe that something in or on the food has caused me to get a rather nasty stomach bug. that ahs caused me to not eat lin 2 days. im becoming very weak and am trying to eat bread and dry things  to try and starve the bug out of my system.

Anyway  :)

On a high note, Not long to the braek now, just the rest of this week and then next week and then we are finished for christmas, and my family are coming out to see me!   :D i cannot wait to see them, i have missed them so much! i cannot wait to spend some time with them on the beautiful beaches of Costa Rica  :)

Anyway,  im trying to get better,  by resting and not exerting myself so hopefully by the next post i should be fit ans well again   :)   I will attach some photos of the cutlture weeks for you to have a look at  :)

Ciao for now

xx
